Next year, Austria’s pensioners will not only be able to look forward to more money, but the protection clause will also be extended and the aliquotation further suspended. This will bring many advantages, especially for new pensioners.
In just a few days, 2024 will be over again, and the new year will also bring some changes. While many things will become more expensive, some social benefits and salaries will increase. Pensioners in Austria will also receive more money, with pensions rising by 4.6 percent. In addition, the safeguard clause will remain in place for another year and the aliquot system will be suspended for one year longer. It all sounds good at first, but pensioners’ representatives are not entirely satisfied. Read more here: Fixed pension increase: “No less, but no more either…”.
What does the pension increase in Austria actually mean?
But what does this 4.6 percent pension increase mean in concrete terms? Average pensions, which currently amount to 1,694 euros gross, would increase by around 78 euros – to 1,772 euros. Assuming the equalization supplement, which around 200,000 minimum pensioners receive, this would rise from the current EUR 1,217.96 to just under EUR 1,274. A more detailed list of the different gross and net salaries of pensioners in 2025 can be found here: More money for pensioners: this is how much will arrive in their accounts.

The protection clause, which prevents new pensioners from being disadvantaged, will be extended by one year.
The aliquotation rule will also be suspended for one year longer.
This means that there will be no disadvantages at all next year for new pensioners who will not retire until later this year.
Who will be allowed to retire later from January 2025?
But even Austrians themselves are not happy with every change that the new year will bring for pensioners. Some Austrian women in particular will have to work half a year longer from January 1, 2025 – until the age of 61.5. The retirement age for women will be gradually raised further in the coming years and brought into line with that of men (65 years).
